The VAPORESSO GEN AIR 40 is a compact, ultra-light pod system designed for portability. Backed by VAPORESSO’s strong reputation (think GEN and LUXE series), it features a 1800mAh battery, a generous 4.5mL pod capacity, and uses reliable, widely available GTX coils.
The GEN AIR 40 is a lightweight, box-style AIO/pod system that sits between compact pods and full-size kits in size—perfectly balancing portability and power. Weighing just 67g, it’s marketed as the lightest 40W pod, yet still feels sturdy and well-built.
Available in seven colors, including gradient options like twilight gold and aurora green, it stands out with full-body color rather than just panel accents. It features two buttons (fire and power adjustment) and four LEDs for battery and wattage display—simple, sleek, and solid.
Getting started
The GEN AIR 40 is straightforward to use, even without a manual (mine came in a blank box, and none was available online at the time). Luckily, setup was easy: press the fire button five times to turn it on/off, and hold the power adjustment button to cycle through power levels. The LED lights indicate the selected wattage.
One LED: 3V
Two LEDs: 3.2V
Three LEDs 3.4V
Four LEDs: 3.6V
With the 0.4-ohm coil, the device runs at 32W (four LEDs), which is ideal. The 0.8-ohm coil fires between 11–16W. Airflow is adjustable—from loose MTL to restricted DL—and the pod is easy to remove and reattach with strong magnets. Filling is simple via a red rubber plug, but the dark tint on the pod makes it hard to check e-liquid levels without tilting. It’s a minor flaw in an otherwise user-friendly setup.
Performance
The GEN AIR 40 uses VAPORESSO’s reliable GTX coils, though not all GTX coils are compatible—a bit frustrating, but the website clearly lists which ones work. It comes with two: a 0.8-ohm mesh (12–16W) and a 0.4-ohm mesh (26–32W), with three more sold separately.
I tested the 0.8-ohm coil with 20–24 mg nic salts (50/50) and preferred it on low power—great flavor and solid coil life at around 30 mL. The 0.4-ohm coil worked best on high (32W) with 3 mg juice (70/30), delivering a decent vape, though I personally find the 20–40W range a bit awkward. Coil life was good at about 50 mL. Overall, the device shines in MTL use with lower wattage coils and higher nicotine.
Battery life and charging
Battery life on the GEN AIR 40 is solid, especially with the 0.8-ohm coil on low—it easily lasts all day for most users. It has an 1800mAh internal battery, charges via USB-C at the bottom (so it lays flat), and supports 2A charging. I measured a 1.94A rate with a full charge time of 53 minutes, which is excellent for a pod system.
The actual battery capacity is slightly below 1800mAh (closer to 1500mAh), but that’s common due to industry-standard overrating. Passthrough vaping is supported, and the four-step LED battery meter is a nice touch—much better than the typical vague three-step indicators.
One LED: 0-25%
Two LEDs: 25-50%
Three LEDs: 50-75%
Four LEDs: 75-100%
Excellent job by Vaporesso, and I really like it when companies listen to cons in reviews and change them to pros on the next device.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Cons
Solid build quality
Lightweight and durable
Simple and good-looking device
Seven color options
Refillable pods with replaceable coils
Great capacity (4.5 mL)
Pods are held in firmly
Easy to use and fill
Good flavor and life from both coils
GTX line isn’t fully compatible (five out of the eight listed are compatible)
Pods are tinted too dark
Battery is slightly overrated
CONCLUSION
Overall, VAPORESSO nailed it with the GEN AIR 40. It’s a great choice for low-wattage, all-day MTL vaping—compact, lightweight, and efficient. While it’s not ideal for DL in my opinion due to the mid-range wattage, those who enjoy DL around 30W will still find it satisfying. For me, it performs best with the 0.8-ohm coil at lower wattages.
