SMOK Novo Pro: Is This the Best Novo Yet? Full Review

The SMOK Novo Pro improves on the Novo Master (late 2023) with a 1300mAh battery, OLED screen, 1.6A charging, and 3mL pods. It comes in 13 colors and packs solid features for a compact refillable pod vape.

The SMOK Novo Pro is the latest in the Novo series (est. 2018), refining past designs with an OLED screen, adjustable power, a 1300mAh battery, 1.6A charging, and 3mL pods. While not revolutionary, it improves on the Novo Master and remains compatible with previous Novo pods, making it a solid upgrade for fans. Let’s see how it performs!

Build quality and design

The SMOK Novo Pro has a sturdy yet standard build, featuring a zinc-alloy chassis with IML plastic panels. Its rounded edges make it comfortable, though the glossy finish can attract fingerprints. A rubber pad on the bottom aims to help it stand but isn’t very effective.

Weighing 59.2–64.2g and measuring 112.0 x 24.6 x 14.6mm, it’s lightweight, compact, and even hands-free friendly. The button is solid and doesn’t rattle, but the airflow switch is loose, making it tricky to maintain a set airflow.

Clear meshed Novo pods

The Novo Pro introduces new “clear meshed” pods while staying compatible with previous Novo pods. It switches to a side-fill system, allowing for a larger 3mL capacity. Though lightly tinted, the e-liquid level remains easy to check.

Getting started

Filling the SMOK Novo Pro is simple but requires some effort. The side rubber plug is sturdy but tricky for those with short nails, and airflow restrictions may require tilting for a full refill. Once filled, the single button makes operation easy.

On/off: five clicks

Wattage adjustment mode: three clicks

Turn button activation on/off: four clicks

Puff counter clear: remove pod, then hold down the button while inserting pod

The 0.42-inch OLED screen shows wattage, puffs, battery life, and resistance. Clicking three times adjusts wattage (1W increments, up to 30W, round-robin style).

Minor drawbacks: the battery bar is small, and the puff counter is limited to three digits—a percentage display and four-digit counter would be better.

On the plus side, the intelligent chipset auto-adjusts wattage when inserting a pod and remembers previous settings unless powered off or switched. You can also lock the fire button (device is both button & draw-activated) by clicking four times.

Performance

The SMOK Novo Pro’s airflow is a highlight—smooth and turbulence-free at any setting. While the adjustment switch feels loose, performance remains excellent.

Included are two pods: 0.6Ω and 0.8Ω, though wattage and vaping style aren’t specified. Luckily, the auto wattage feature provides guidance.

I tested both for RDL vaping and an extra 0.8Ω pod for MTL. Here’s how they performed.

0.6-ohm (RDL)

Initially, this pod delivered a great RDL vape at 18W, with vibrant flavor from my 70% VG fruity menthol e-liquid. Sadly, the experience didn’t last—semi-dry hits became frequent, even after lowering the wattage. After just 10mL of e-liquid, I had to give up on it.

0.8-ohm (RDL)

With the same e-liquid, flavor matched or even slightly outperformed the 0.6Ω pod. Semi-dry hits still occurred but were less frequent. Performance was enjoyable, but longevity was lacking—after 22mL of e-liquid, the pod was done.

0.8-ohm (MTL)

The 0.8Ω pod shines in MTL vaping with tight airflow and saturated, clear flavor. While it’s not quite on par with top performers like the Caliburn A3 or XROS Pro, it’s still enjoyable for all-day use. However, its longevity falls short—the performance dropped after about 20mL of e-liquid.

Battery life and charging

The SMOK Novo Pro shines in battery life with a 1300mAh capacity, a major upgrade from previous models. You can get through about 7mL of e-liquid before needing a charge. With USB-C and 1.6A charging, it takes only 43 minutes to reach 100%.

My only gripe is with the charging indicator—it disappears after 9 seconds, and sometimes only flashes briefly when pressing the button. It would be better if the status stayed visible throughout the charge or at least for a few seconds after pressing the button.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Lightweight and pocket-friendly
  • OLED screen (0.42 inch)
  • Comfortable mouthpiece
  • Compatible with Novo, Novo 2, and Novo 2X pods
  • Super smooth airflow
  • No leaking
  • Three-digit puff counter
  • A percentage (%) battery indicator would be more useful
  • Charging status disappears after 9 seconds
  • No wattage range or vaping style indicated on pods
  • Airflow adjustment switch is too loose

CONCLUSION

I’ve generally enjoyed the SMOK Novo Pro. Its size, battery life, and e-liquid capacity make it a great on-the-go device. The price is solid, and the 0.8Ω pod offers a great MTL experience.

It’s good, but not amazing. Semi-dry hits occurred with 70VG juice in the RDL pods, and longevity was average. The loose airflow switch was also frustrating.

While the pods can be hit or miss, the Novo Pro is a good option for disposable users wanting to upgrade. It offers flavorful MTL vaping, simple controls, and easily available pods. Just be sure to try other pods in the line, as the top-fill pods seem to perform better than the side-fill ones I tested.
