Voopoo DRAG Max: The Best Dual-Battery Vape in 2025?

The DRAG Max isn’t just another DRAG-series mod—it’s a heavy-duty pod mod. While it shares design cues with the DRAG and DRAG 2, it’s essentially a dual-18650 version of the DRAG X, offering more battery life and higher wattage. Unlike the Argus GT, which used a 510-to-PnP adapter, the DRAG Max is built solely for PnP pods. If Voopoo’s ecosystem seems complex, stick around as I break it down.

Build quality and design

The DRAG Max feels like a natural evolution of the DRAG series, with a design similar to the original but more compact and rounded. It sits between the DRAG and Argus GT in size but is best described as a dual-battery DRAG X. It features airflow control and a magnetic PnP pod connection instead of a 510. Given its similarities to other DRAG mods, I’ll compare them further for those already familiar with the series.

DRAG Max introduces key upgrades, including a relocated screen for easier thumb firing and a bright, colorful display similar to the DRAG S and X. It’s lighter than previous DRAG mods and features a sleek design with leather backing and subtle branding. My Galaxy Blue edition looked stunning, and the paint quality seems improved. Overall, the DRAG Max merges the best of the DRAG series with the dual-18650 power of the DRAG X, offering style, durability, and a refined experience.

The Voopoo DRAG Max mod

The DRAG Max is a unique hybrid— a high-powered pod vape that can function as a standard mod with a 510 adapter, though Voopoo doesn’t include or produce one. Performance-wise, it excels with PnP pods, firing quickly and efficiently managing battery life. With dual 18650s, I get around 10 mL of e-liquid on the 0.15-ohm coil at 65W, and lower-power coils extend battery life further. Your experience may vary based on battery specs.

As far as navigation goes, you’ll be hard-pressed to find an easier to use dual-18650 device on the market:

Five clicks to turn the mod on/off

Three clicks to change mode (S for smart, R for RBA)

P fire + up to lock the device (doesn’t fire when locked)

Press fire + down to clear the puff counter

Press up + down to change the theme (press fire to pick)

The Limited Edition

The DRAG Max LE includes a full set of PnP coils (including the RBA head), a second PnP tank, and two extra pod options: a PnP MTL pod and a PnP RTA pod. While the MTL PnP tank supports MTL coils, its dual-sided airflow makes for a loose draw, weak throat hit, and muted flavor. Fully closing the airflow tightens the draw but impacts flavor. It’s usable for occasional MTL vaping, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a standalone purchase.

The PnP RTA was a pleasant surprise— a 24mm single-coil tank with great airflow, an easy build deck, and a sleek look on the DRAG Max. However, its 2mL capacity and bottom-fill design are drawbacks. If those aren’t dealbreakers, it’s worth buying separately. As for the PnP RBA head, Dave’s Argus Air review covers it in depth, but I found it a bit finicky. Overall, the LE edition has its pros and cons but offers plenty of options, making Voopoo’s ecosystem approach stand out. I’m glad I got it—otherwise, I’d have bought it myself

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Very lightweight
  • Great design
  • Very well built
  • Lightweight
  • Paint seems to last (unlike previous black DRAG mods)
  • Versatile (pod vape and dual-18650 mod)
  • Very easy to operate
  • The LE comes with a huge variety of options
  • A bit too large (even for a standard mod in 2020)
  • No 510 adapter available from Voopoo
  • The RBA deck is too fiddly
  • Limited functions and modes

CONCLUSION

The DRAG Max is perfect for vapers who love low-resistance PnP coils and want longer battery life in a larger device. If you’re looking for a dual-battery pod vape that’s stylish, well-built, and easy to use, it’s a great choice. However, if you plan to use it with a 510 adapter and vape at triple-digit wattages, you may want to check detailed specs first. For most vapers, though, the DRAG Max is an easy recommendation.
