The Vaporesso Gen S kit is a sleek, lightweight dual-18650 mod rated for 220W, paired with the 8 mL NRG-S sub-ohm tank featuring mesh coils. Known for quality mods like the Luxe and Target Mini 2, Vaporesso continues to impress with this powerful and stylish setup.
The Vaporesso Gen S impresses with its sleek, simple design, free of flashy lights and gaudy logos. Its smooth, soft texture ensures a comfortable grip. While the size matches the original Gen mod, it’s slightly taller than some other dual-18650 mods but remains lightweight and well-balanced. The kit includes the matching NRG-S tank with a textured design, adding to its polished and cohesive look.
Build quality and design
The Vaporesso Gen S is a well-built, lightweight mod (107g) with a sleek, rubber-like soft-touch casing made from four layers of coating. It features a clear 0.95-inch black-and-white screen, a centered 510 pin supporting up to 26 mm tanks, and comes in 12 vibrant color options. Branding is minimal, with a small logo and text.
The magnetic side battery door is sturdy, fits well, and includes a ribbon for easy battery removal. Safety is prioritized with warnings about using undamaged batteries. While there’s minor fire button rattle, the overall design and build quality are excellent.
Features and functions
The Gen S is packed with features, including Pulse Mode, Power Eco, Smart TC, and DIY Mode. DIY Mode offers Power (with normal, hard, and soft preheats), Temp Control (SS, Ni200, Ti, and TCR), Voltage Mode, Watt Curve Mode, Bypass Mode, and Super Player Mode. It also includes Smart and Auto modes in the settings.
The adjustable TCR and variety of modes may feel overwhelming, but most users will find everything they need in DIY Mode. Pulse Mode and Super Player Mode feel somewhat redundant, with the latter being a basic power mode for lower resistance.
Using the Vaporesso Gen S
As far as the menu goes, it’s typical Vaporesso. Same as the Gen, there is a dedicated menu button between the plus and minus buttons. It’s very simple and easy to navigate. Here is a quick rundown:
Five clicks of the fire button to turn on and off.
Three clicks of the menu button to enter the menu.
Use up and down to scroll the menu and mode to accept.
Press fire to exit menu.
Three clicks of fire to lock adjustment buttons (mod can still fire).
TCR and power adjustments are made after selecting the mode.
Power mode performance
The Gen S uses the Axon chip, similar to the original Gen, offering consistent performance likely achieved through firmware updates rather than hardware changes. Tested with Sony VTC5A batteries, the mod reached a maximum wattage of 211W, close to the 220W rating. While Vaporesso doesn’t list the voltage or amp limits, the performance is reliable and impressive.
The Gen S delivers a 39-amp limit, average for dual-battery mods, and an impressive 9.257-volt limit with a 0.64-ohm coil, thanks to its boost circuit—a feature Vaporesso, Geekvape, Innokin, and Aspire have consistently included. Wattage adjusts in 0.1-watt increments below 100W and full-watt increments above, with quick scrolling for convenience.
Performance is solid, with slight struggles on 0.11-ohm builds but excellent accuracy otherwise. Charging is rated at 2.5 amps, and testing showed a max rate of 2.27 amps, making it one of the fastest-charging mods available.
Temperature control performance
Using SS316L wire in SS mode with the TCR set to 92, I tested four builds:
One simple round single coil
One simple round dual coil
One fancy wire single coil
One fancy wire dual coil

CONCLUSION
Vaporesso did a great job with the Gen S. While it’s nearly identical to the original Gen and not worth upgrading if you already own one, it’s an excellent choice for new buyers.
The kit’s tank is solid, though the included coils are average. Luckily, cross-compatibility makes it easy to find better coils. If you already have a good sub-ohm tank, the mod-only option is a better pick.
