VOOPOO ARGUS G3 Review: A New Era of Pod Technology

The VOOPOO ARGUS G3, now in its third generation, features upgraded pods with iCOSM 2.0 tech for better flavor, leak resistance, and longevity. It also includes a 0.96-inch TFT screen and a 1500 mAh battery.

The VOOPOO ARGUS G3 brings a more refined design, bigger battery, upgraded menu, and ditching button-firing for draw activation. While these changes might not seem groundbreaking, the real innovation is in the new iCOSM Code 2.0 pods, offering better flavor, improved wicking, less leaking, and longer coil life. Previous ARGUS pods are still compatible.

Build quality and design

The VOOPOO ARGUS G3 may not have the premium feel of the Caliburn G3 Pro or the ruggedness of the Geekvape Aegis Hero Q, but it’s a well-built device. The button can be a bit loose and rattly, though. Its design is simple, following a classic pod vape look, which is fine given how few pod designs stand out. The midnight black version, with its subtle “smokey” waves, looks classy, though the polished accents easily pick up fingerprints.

The 0.96-inch color screen is still a standout, offering sharp visuals and some customization options with new themes and animations. The ornate bezel around the screen, however, may be a love-it-or-hate-it feature.

Getting started

VOOPOO takes a cue from OXVA by including a quick-start guide right in the G3 packaging. This is a great move, making it easier for vapers of all experience levels to get up and running quickly. I’d love to see this become standard.

Here’s everything you need to know:

One click to wake up the screen

Two clicks to change themes (long press to confirm selection)

Three clicks to enter wattage-adjustment mode

Five clicks to enter the menu (power on/off, clear puffs, lock/unlock)

Long press to enter stealth mode

The iCOSM 2.0 pods work like the previous top-fill versions (side-fill, technically). You don’t need to remove the pod—just lift the rubber tab and fill. However, the large coil housing creates two chambers, so filling takes some patience with repeated squeezing to let air bubbles escape.

A useful feature is a temporary display showing the pod’s resistance and recommended wattage range, plus the chip prevents you from exceeding the power limit.

0.4-ohm pod range: 5-18 watts (recommended: 14-18 watts)

0.7-ohm pod range: 5-30 watts (recommended: 18-30 watts)

The airflow slider on the side lets you adjust the draw to your preference, with a focus on MTL users. Even halfway open, it provides a solid MTL draw, and fully open, you can get an RDL draw.

Performance

The iCOSM Code 2.0 pods feature a large mesh coil, dual layers of wicking (golden cotton and a mega-core), and a copper e-liquid shield. This design aims to boost flavor, improve wicking speed, and extend coil and cotton life.

The golden cotton, which is aerospace-grade, is especially interesting. VOOPOO claims it’s three times denser, lasts 300% longer, and has 73% more heat resistance than regular cotton. While these claims are bold, the real test is in how the pods perform.

0.7-ohm pod (MTL)

After just a few minutes of use, it was clear that iCOSM 2.0 lives up to its claims. The flavor is excellent, on par with top brands like OXVA and UWELL. I’ve used a 50/50 blend with no leaking or gurgling, and after 20 mL, the pod still performs like new.

0.4-ohm pod (DTL)

I had high hopes after using the MTL pod, but this one didn’t quite match up. The draw is smooth, the wicking handles 70VG e-liquid well, and the flavor is good. However, while tasty, I wouldn’t call it “top-notch.” The 0.7-ohm pod seems to have outperformed it.

Battery life and charging

A major upgrade is the 1500 mAh battery, 1.5 times larger than the original, with the same compact size. It charges fully in just 38 minutes, which is faster than most devices, even though VOOPOO claims 45 minutes.

However, the battery capacity seems slightly overrated, as I get through 6.5-7 mL per charge, which is a bit lower than expected from a 1500 mAh. But coil efficiency varies, so it’s hard to judge.

One minor downside is the charging display looks great but disappears after a few seconds. To check the status, you have to press the button to wake the device, as there’s no permanent indicator during charging.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Excellent MTL experience
  • Beautiful display with multiple themes
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • Fast charging (38 minutes)
  • Compatible with previous ARGUS pods
  • Five-digit puff counter
  • Can refill without removing the pod from the device
  • E-liquid level is fully visible
  • Filling can be tedious
  • Button rattle
  • Battery status disappears while charging (must wake up device)
  • Difficult to stand upright

CONCLUSION

The VOOPOO ARGUS G3 is a clear upgrade over its predecessor, with better battery capacity, fast charging, and an improved menu system. The 0.7-ohm iCOSM 2.0 pod delivers an excellent MTL experience—while not the absolute best, it’s definitely near the top.

The downsides are minor: the charging status isn’t visible while charging, the filling process is slow, and the button feels loose. I also wish manufacturers would move away from glossy accents, but that’s just a personal preference. At least there are no PU leather panels.

While the ARGUS G3 isn’t my new favorite pod vape, I’ve enjoyed using it. It may not look flashy, but it performs well, especially for MTL. The G3 and iCOSM 2.0 platform have great potential, and I’m excited to see how they evolve.
