Build quality and design

The Caliburn X measures 107.4 mm x 27.5 mm x 15.6 mm, making it thicker yet still compact and lightweight. It features a new black-and-white screen displaying charge, wattage, volts, resistance, and puffs—marking a major shift in the series’ design. While the matte finish and shiny accents feel premium, the airflow slider is slightly loose. Despite a thicker mouthpiece, the X maintains solid build quality, hinting at exciting future upgrades like a potential color screen in an X2 version.

Getting started

The X may be the most advanced Caliburn to date, but it’s not a very complicated device to set up and use:

  1. Prime the coil with 4-5 drops of e-liquid.
  2. Insert the coil into the pod, aligning it with the cutout.
  3. Attach the pod to the battery.
  4. Remove the mouthpiece and fill via the red-marked hole.
  5. Wait 5 minutes for the wick to saturate.
  6. Adjust airflow with the slider.
  7. Press the button or inhale to start vaping.

And here’s a rundown of button operations:

  1. Press fire 5 times to turn the device on/off.
  2. Press fire 3 times to adjust wattage (blinks when ready).
  3. Increase wattage by pressing fire while blinking.
  4. Press fire 2 times to lock/unlock the button (auto-draw stays active).

Performance

The Caliburn X uses Caliburn G coils, offering similar performance to the G and G2 but with added wattage adjustability for fine-tuning. The included 1.2-ohm (9-13W) and 0.8-ohm (13-18W) coils perform well, handling up to 70VG and supporting both nicotine salts and regular e-liquid. Coil life averages 20-25 mL, and both can do light RDL with open airflow.

Leaking is minimal and typical for pod vapes, with no major issues during testing. The auto-draw sensor is highly sensitive, making the button almost unnecessary. While one 0.8-ohm coil caused occasional atomizer short errors, re-seating the pod resolved it, and other coils worked flawlessly.

Battery life and charging

The Caliburn X features an 850 mAh battery with Type-C charging. While slightly smaller than expected for its size, it’s still impressive for a pod system. With the 1.2-ohm coil at 12 watts, it lasts over 6 mL of juice, though performance dips slightly toward the end.

A full charge takes 52 minutes, with faster charging up to 80%. Passthrough charging allows vaping while plugged in, making it convenient for on-the-go use.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Good build quality
  • Lightweight and pocketable
  • Bright and clear screen
  • Full wattage adjustability
  • Adjustable airflow (without having to remove the pod)
  • Top filling
  • Good pod capacity (3 mL)
  • High-performing coils
  • Would have preferred a smaller mouthpiece
  • Airflow adjustment slider is a bit loose
  • Some connection issues with a 0.8-ohm coil
  • Wattage isn’t set automatically when changing coils
  • Usage may be a bit complicated for beginners

CONCLUSION

The Caliburn X is a reliable pod system with excellent coils, offering more features than many competitors, including a screen, adjustable airflow, and power settings. The battery life is solid, and it charges quickly.

While it may not be the best choice for beginners, as simpler devices like the Caliburn A2 and VAPORESSO LUXE QS offer similar performance, it’s a great option for experienced vapers who want extra customization and fine-tuning.
