“The Truth About VAPORESSO GEN 200 Kit: Performance and Verdict”

The GEN 200 kit is one of VAPORESSO’s latest releases, continuing the success of their popular GEN series (GEN, GEN S, and GEN X), known for lightweight, textured designs. Unlike the recent pod/AIO trend, VAPORESSO returns to mod and tank kits, with the GEN 200 offering up to 220 watts of power, powered by dual 18650 batteries. It includes the iTank, previously reviewed in detail with the TARGET 200 kit, so this review focuses solely on the mod.

First impressions

Over the years, I’ve reviewed many VAPORESSO mods, known for their style and performance, and the GEN 200 doesn’t disappoint. It follows the sleek, lightweight design of previous GEN mods, with a textured grip and bright color screen, though the fixed colors for modes feel limiting. It’s one of the lightest dual-battery mods I’ve handled recently and offers excellent comfort. Including the reliable iTank in the kit is a great addition.

Build quality and design

The VAPORESSO GEN 200 mod maintains the brand’s reputation for durability and quality, with a lightweight yet sturdy build. It features a centered 510 pin, a simple circular fire button, and a bright 0.96-inch TFT color screen. The mod’s symmetrical design is comfortable to use, though a firing bar could enhance usability.

The magnetic battery door fits securely, with strong magnets and a protective coating. Its 29 mm width fits most tanks seamlessly, including the included iTank. The matte grey version stands out with its full-body color and minimalist branding, making for a sleek and stylish mod.

Features and functions

The GEN 200 uses the same chipset as the TARGET 200, offering multiple power modes like Pulse, F[t], and standard Wattage mode, with Wattage being my preference. It also features a DIY mode for soft, normal, or hard preheat, as well as Voltage and Bypass modes, which switch the screen color to red. While it lacks temp control and Watt curve options, it provides all the essential power modes, though some feel a bit redundant.

Using the GEN 200

The GEN 200 is a pretty typical mod and basic operations are identical to the TARGET 200:

  • Click the fire button five times to turn it on/off.
  • Click fire three times to lock the adjustment buttons.
  • Use up or down to adjust wattage.
  • Hold the menu button to cycle through the three power modes.
  • Click the mode button three times to enter the menu.

The menu includes three main modes, DIY mode, and a Settings section for puffs, smart mode toggle, and factory reset. It also tracks daily puff history for the past seven days. The screen shows wattage, puff counter, battery level, resistance, puff timer, and voltage output.

Power mode performance

Testing was conducted with Sony VCT5A batteries. The mod is rated for 220 watts, and testing confirmed a max wattage of 223, matching the rating. The amp limit reached 44 with a 0.1-ohm coil, slightly above average for dual-18650 mods, while the voltage peaked at 9.467, indicating a boost circuit—a great feature for dual-battery mods.

Performance mirrored the TARGET 200, thanks to the shared chipset. The mod struggled slightly with 0.1-ohm resistance (expected) and showed minor inaccuracies at higher resistance, but it was very accurate in the mid-range where the iTank operates. Overall, it’s a powerful and reliable mod.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Solid build quality
  • Very lightweight but still durable
  • Good size for a dual-18650 mod
  • Nice hand-feel
  • Nicely textured body
  • No button rattle
  • Large and bright color screen
  • Great power mode performance
  • Boost circuit and high volt limit (9.467V)
  • Great amp limit (44A)
  • No option to change colors on the screen
  • Some unnecessary modes that don’t add much
  • VAPORESSO only list max wattage (no amps/volts)
  • Tank coils are hard to remove and no tool came in my kit

CONCLUSION

The GEN 200 is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a dual-18650 mod with a reliable tank. It shares the same chipset, performance, modes, and the impressive iTank as the TARGET 200. While both are great options, I prefer the GEN 200 for its smaller, lighter design, though the choice ultimately depends on personal preference. For those interested in a single-battery option, stay tuned for my upcoming review of the GEN 80S.
