The Truth About UWELL Caliburn X: Honest Review & Performance Test

The Caliburn X isn’t just a Caliburn with a screen. It blends the A series design with the G series’ replaceable coils, creating a powerful hybrid. With an 850mAh battery, adjustable airflow, and multiple coil options, it’s built for versatility.

UWELL Caliburn X is the latest in the popular Caliburn series, introducing a new sub-line. Unlike previous models, it features an OLED screen, full wattage adjustability, an 850mAh battery, and 3mL pods. While its design is larger, it remains compatible with Caliburn G coils, offering three coil options.

Build quality and design

Caliburn X breaks the traditional mold with a thicker, yet still compact and lightweight design (107.4mm x 27.5mm x 15.6mm). It features a larger mouthpiece, though I prefer the A2 or original Caliburn’s. The standout addition is the black-and-white screen, displaying key vape stats like charge, wattage, and puffs—likely setting a trend for future models.

With a matte finish and a sleek reflective panel around the button and screen, the build quality is solid, though the airflow slider feels a bit loose at times.

Getting started

The X may be the most advanced Caliburn to date, but it’s not a very complicated device to set up and use:

  1. Drip 4-5 drops of e-juice into the coil.
  2. Insert the coil into the pod, aligning the cutout.
  3. Attach the pod to the battery.
  4. Remove the mouthpiece by pushing the flat side.
  5. Fill the pod using the red-marked hole.
  6. Wait 5 minutes for saturation.
  7. Adjust airflow with the slider.
  8. Press the button or inhale to vape.

And here’s a rundown of button operations:

Press fire five times to turn the device on/off.

Press fire three times to adjust the wattage (wattage will start blinking).

Press fire three times to adjust the wattage (wattage will start blinking).

Press fire two times to lock/unlock the fire button (auto-draw still works).

My only gripe is the lack of auto wattage adjustment when inserting the pod, a common feature in many devices. Having to check the wattage range for each coil can be annoying. Otherwise, it’s a hassle-free device that experienced vapers will find easy to use.

Performance

Since the Caliburn X uses G series coils, its performance is similar to the Caliburn G and G2, with the added benefit of full wattage adjustability for fine-tuning. The included 1.2Ω (9-13W) coil is ideal for mid-strength nic salts, while the 0.8Ω (13-18W) coil works well for regular nic and lower-strength salts, even allowing for some RDL vaping with open airflow. Coil life averages 20-25mL, and they handle up to 70VG with ease.

While some users report leakage, my testing showed minimal issues—only occasional drops, which is normal for pod vapes. The auto-draw sensor is highly responsive, making the button almost unnecessary. I did encounter an atomizer short with one 0.8Ω coil, but reinserting the pod resolved it.

Battery life and charging

The Caliburn X features an 850mAh battery with Type-C charging. While I expected closer to 1000mAh given its size, it still offers solid battery life for a pod system. Using the 1.2Ω coil at 12W, I vaped over 6mL before needing a recharge, though performance dipped near the end.

A full charge takes around 52 minutes, with faster charging up to 80% before slowing down. It also supports passthrough charging, so you can vape while plugged in.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Good build quality
  • Lightweight and pocketable
  • Bright and clear screen
  • Full wattage adjustability
  • Adjustable airflow (without having to remove the pod)
  • Top filling
  • Good pod capacity (3 mL)
  • Would have preferred a smaller mouthpiece
  • Airflow adjustment slider is a bit loose
  • Some connection issues with a 0.8-ohm coil
  • Wattage isn’t set automatically when changing coils

CONCLUSION

Caliburn X is a well-built pod system with great coils, a screen, full airflow and power adjustability, and a long-lasting, fast-charging battery.

While it may not be the best choice for first-time vapers—simpler options like the Caliburn A2 or VAPORESSO LUXE QS offer similar performance—it’s a great pick for those looking to fine-tune their vaping experience with extra features.
