The Phix by MLV, launched in 2017 and often dubbed the “JUUL killer,” is a sleek prefilled pod vape. It features a 280 mAh passthrough battery and ceramic-wicked 1.5 mL pods, available in 9 flavors with 5% nicotine (regular or TFN)
The Phix features a diamond-shaped, slim battery with magnetic pods and an optional removable belt clip for discreet use. Its matte finish comes in five colors: electric blue, pearl white, black, red, and stainless steel. Made from a lightweight ceramic material with an aluminum-like feel, the Phix offers a sleek, sophisticated design that’s both understated and modern.

Getting started
Unpack the Phix, remove caps and plugs, and attach the optional clip if desired. Insert a pod into the battery housing and take a drag when ready.
The Phix uses magnetic pods, similar to the Vuse Alto, but with a slightly more secure fit that withstands minor drops. Juice windows on the pod and battery allow monitoring, though visibility is poor without extra light. Interestingly, covering a pod window can slightly adjust airflow, but it has minimal impact. For the best view of your juice levels, simply remove the pod
How does it hit?
The Phix delivers a tight, warm MTL draw that feels satisfying and similar to a cigarette, closer to the Alto than the Juul. The automatic draw is smooth and requires minimal effort.
The throat hit is strong but not harsh, providing a full, satisfying experience. The draw is quiet, with a faint crackle from the ceramic wick. While the ceramic coil ensures consistent performance and prevents leaking, pods may occasionally gurgle, leading to minor juice spit-back.
To fix this, lightly blow into the pod mouthpiece and clear any liquid with a napkin. This quick step ensures a clean, enjoyable vape.
Are the flavors any good?
The Phix e-liquid, made by Brewell MFG, is known for its high-quality flavors. It offers two lines: the standard line with Original Tobacco and Ice (in 4-packs) and the INFZN line with sweeter options (in 2-packs). Currently, I’m using Original Tobacco, but based on past experience, Brewell flavors are always top-notch.
Original tobacco
The flavor is nutty, slightly woody, mildly smoky, and subtly sweet—reminiscent of classic 555 tobacco vapes. It strikes a balance between Juul’s Classic and Virginia Tobacco, delivering a true-to-tobacco experience.
Battery life and charging
The Phix has a 240 mAh battery lasting about 3/4 of a pod per charge. An LED indicator shows battery levels: blue (full), orange (medium), and red (low). It uses a proprietary magnetic charger (included) and fully recharges in ~45 minutes. You can also vape while charging, thanks to passthrough functionality.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Cons
Classy look and design
Solid hit
Plenty of flavor options
Pods can withstand moderate chain vaping
Magnetic connections snap into place
No leaking
Consistent hits
Pocket clip is a nice change from lanyards
Price is a bit on the high side
Occasional gurgle can lead to juice in the mouth
Slight wobble to pods in battery housing
Juice windows are hard to see through
CONCLUSION
The Phix might not be the “JUUL killer” anymore, but it’s certainly a strong competitor to the Vuse Alto. After some past consistency issues, I’ve had no problems with the 8 pods I’ve used recently, aside from a slight gurgling issue, which can be easily fixed.
If you’re looking for a reliable prefilled pod vape to replace the often inconsistent Vuse Alto, the Phix is worth considering. While it has minor flaws, its consistent performance makes it a solid choice.
