Innokin Coolfire Z80 with Zenith II Tank – Best MTL Vape Kit of the Year?

Product intro and specs

The Coolfire Z80 & Zenith II kit is Innokin’s latest in the Platform series, designed by Phil Busardo and the VapinGreek. It combines the newest Coolfire mod with the third-generation Zenith tank, aimed at helping beginners and smokers transition to vaping.

Innokin Coolfire Z80

The Coolfire Z80 features soft, suede- and leather-like textures that are both lightweight and smooth. It comes in three sleek finishes: gunmetal black, dark grey, and steel silver, with colors ranging from bold black and white to subtle greys.

Innokin Zenith II

The iconic MTL tank returns, now enhanced for both smooth MTL and impressive RDL vaping. Enjoy precise airflow control, a cleaner fill with the upgraded rotating cap, and a new silicone seal to prevent leaks.

Build quality and design

The Coolfire Z80 kit comes in eco-friendly cardboard packaging, continuing Innokin’s commitment to sustainability. I tested the Leather Black and Leather White versions—both stylish and high-quality, though I was curious about the Alcantara-textured Ash Grey and Cloudy Grey options.

Innokin continues to lead in design. The Z80 features a sturdy metal body with a soft, premium leather back that feels great in hand. It’s surprisingly lightweight at just 88.5g (133g with battery), striking the perfect balance between portability and quality.

Buttons feel responsive, with a bronze-accented fire button—though silver might suit the white version better. The large, flat color screen is easy to read, and the mod charges via USB-C (1.7A). It uses a screw-cap battery door—less convenient but built to last.

My only gripe: after a few drops, the black unit showed slight chipping—nothing major, but worth noting if you’re picky about wear. The other finishes may hold up better.

The Zenith II tank feels like a true successor to the original Zenith, not the Pro. It’s a 26mm tank with a generous 5.5 mL capacity and several smart upgrades: cleaner design, no awkward drip tip riser, refined airflow for MTL and RDL, removable glass for easy cleaning, and an improved grip on the airflow ring. The fill port now has a silicone seal, though it can be tricky with larger bottles—personally, I’d prefer the Zlide’s sliding top.

The Coolfire Z80 mod

The Z80 is simple and user-friendly, staying true to the Platform line’s focus on ease of use. It skips temperature control mode, which many vapers—myself included—won’t miss.

Basic operations are as follows:

Three clicks of the power button to turn the mod on/off

Pressing power + up shows battery charge, coil resistance, puffs (you can clear the puff counter in this menu)

Pressing power + down locks the mod (you can still fire it)

Pressing up + down enters the main menu

The Zenith II tank

In my view, the Zenith II is the standout of this kit. The Z80 mod is great, but with millions of original Zenith tanks sold, many readers might just be here for the tank itself.

For context, the Zlide has been my go-to for over two years—I use it daily and still keep backups. So naturally, I’m comparing the Zenith II to the Zlide in terms of performance.

The Zenith II is a 26 mm tank with a 5.5 mL capacity and includes two drip tips: Ultem for MTL and Delrin for RDL. Like the original Zenith, it uses a twist-to-open top fill system with clear lock/unlock icons. You might need to remove the drip tip for easier refills. Swapping coils is simple—unscrew the base and pull the coil out, aligning the flat edges when inserting a new one. Since the 510 connection is built into the coil, you get a fresh, clean connection every time, which is a major plus.

Adjusting the Zenith II’s airflow is simple—just twist the airflow ring. It offers three small holes for MTL (with one slightly larger, likely 0.8 mm) and a separate slot for RDL. Unlike previous versions, the slot can be used independently for a looser draw.

The tank is easy to grip and disassemble. There’s no liquid flow control, but the added silicone gasket prevents flooding—I didn’t experience any issues while filling. Cleaning is a breeze too, as the glass is removable by unscrewing the top. Just be sure the O-rings are properly seated when reassembling.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Great build quality
  • Leather provides excellent hand feel
  • Relatively lightweight and compact (for an 18650 mod)
  • Large and clean screen (colored)
  • Menu is easy to navigate
  • Two innovative modes (FØ and Refresh)
  • Refresh mode works as advertised
  • Type-C charging
  • Zenith II is great for MTL
  • Minor chipping on black unit after a couple of falls
  • May need to remove drip tip to fill (esp. with large bottles)
  • My 0.3-ohm coils lasted for less than two full tanks
  • Threaded battery cap is a bit of a chore to remove
  • Tank too large for certain mods (26 mm)

CONCLUSION

The Coolfire Z80 & Zenith II kit is a top-tier choice for MTL vaping. It’s sleek, comfortable to hold, and delivers excellent performance with a premium feel. The two new modes are interesting—though I didn’t get much from FØ mode, they show promise.

Cons are minimal and mostly subjective: slight color wear on the black unit, occasional mess when filling without removing the drip tip, and short coil life on the 0.3-ohm coils in my experience. The tank’s 26 mm size may also be a tight fit on smaller mods.

That said, the Zenith II is one of the best MTL tanks available today, and the Z80 complements it perfectly. Highly recommended for MTL, less so for RDL.
