First impressions

The Aegis Legend met my expectations—it’s essentially a dual-battery version of the original Aegis. It’s slightly larger than most dual-18650 mods but still comfortable to hold, with a durable rubber coating and leather backing. It’s lighter than it looks and feels high-quality. The biggest change is the battery door, now a bottom-fed locking tray instead of the original threaded cap. Overall, I was impressed from the start.

Build quality and design

The Aegis Legend features a rounded rectangular design with a front-facing screen and fire button, resembling the Lost Vape Therion or Paranormal. Built like a tank, it feels solid with no button rattle. The bottom latch battery door fits well and opens easily but can be tricky to close with batteries. Overall, it’s a well-built and stylish mod.

Features and functions

The Aegis Legend is packed with features, including wattage mode, TC for SS, Ti, and Ni200, TCR mode, a five-step wattage curve, and bypass mode. It has a color screen with three options (red, light blue, and blue)—more choices would be nice, but it’s better than non.

Using the Geekvape Aegis Legend

The Aegis Legend is easy to use. Five clicks turn it on/off, and three clicks let you switch modes. While selecting a mode, hold + and to change screen colors. Press fire to confirm or cycle through options. Adjust settings with + and , then hold fire to exit. In temp or power mode, you can tweak settings anytime using + or .

Power mode performance

I tested the Aegis Legend with Sony VTC5A batteries. It’s rated at 200W, 9V, and 50A, and in my tests, it reached 209W—slightly exceeding its spec. The amp limit hit 39A, lower than the listed 50A, but the voltage reached an impressive 10.414V with a 0.52Ω coil, confirming a boost circuit. It adjusts in 1W increments above 100W and 0.1W below. The mod stayed cool during testing and performed accurately, hitting within 3W of the set wattage for most resistances. It’s a well-rated mod with solid power mode performance.

Temperature control mode performance

Using SS316L Wire in TCR Mode with a TCR of 00092 and in SS mode, I tested six builds:

  • One simple round spaced single coil
  • One simple round spaced dual coil
  • One fancy single coil build
  • Two fancy dual coil builds

TC mode allows 200W but realistically maxes out at 40W, making it ineffective for larger builds. Smaller builds heat up but perform inconsistently, cutting back too hard. Overall, TC mode on the Aegis Legend is disappointing.

Durability Testing

I pushed the Aegis Legend to its limits. Like the original, it’s rated IP67—dustproof and waterproof for 30 minutes at 1 meter depth. Geekvape warns that drops over 1 meter can damage batteries and compromise the seal, despite its shockproof design.

Water Resistance

I began stress testing with water resistance, submerging the mod for 10 minutes at 1 meter in my 104°F hot tub. Despite the heat, it worked perfectly after removal. I wiped it down and moved on to the drop test.

Drop Testing

I first dropped the mod from 1 meter onto concrete—no damage. A 2-meter drop caused only minor rubber scuffs. For the final test, I tossed it 4 meters with a spin. It landed on a corner, denting the frame, cracking the screen, and breaking the fire button, but it still worked fine.

Results

The Legend easily passes the durability test. It withstood double the listed drop height with no major damage and even survived an extreme drop, though with visible wear. Plus, it functioned fine after 10 minutes in 104°F water. Overall, it’s impressively tough.
