First impressions

My experience with VOOPOO mods has been mixed, but the DRAG 4 impressed me. Unlike the DRAG 2, which had quality issues, the DRAG 4 is well-built with a solid paint job and a practical battery door. It feels closer to the original DRAG in quality. The large “DRAG” logo is now replaced with a subtle, classy design, making it a much sleeker mod overall.

Build quality and design

The DRAG 4 feels solid and well-built, weighing 153.5g bare and 249.2g with batteries. Its design blends classic DRAG aesthetics with added elegance, featuring a bright 1-inch color screen, a programmable lock slider, and a Type-C charging port. The mod supports atomizers up to 26mm without overhang and pairs seamlessly with the included 25.5mm UFORCE-L tank.

The magnetic battery door fits securely with strong magnets and includes a protective coating. The DRAG 4 is available in six color options: three with resin panels and gunmetal bodies (Ocean Blue, Forest Green, Tropical Orange) and three with wood panels and leather backing (Pale Gold & Walnut, Black & Walnut, Gunmetal & Rosewood). I tested the Black & Walnut version, which looks sleek and classy, with premium-feeling wood and leather materials.

Features and functions

The DRAG 4 offers three power modes (RBA, Eco, and Smart) and four temp control modes (Ni, Ti, SS316, SS430). While the additional modes cater to different preferences, RBA and basic temp control with SS316, SS430, and a custom TCR would suffice for most vapers.

A standout feature is the programmable lock slider below the screen, allowing you to lock adjustment buttons, fully lock the mod, or use it as an on-off switch. It’s practical for pocketing the device without accidental firing and is a feature that sets the DRAG 4 apart.

Using the DRAG 4 mod

The DRAG 4 is a pretty typical mod as far as usage goes. There is a fire button, up and down buttons, and the lock slider. Basic operations are as follows:

  • Click the fire button five times to turn it on/off.
  • Push up or down to adjust wattage or temp.
  • Hold up and down to enter the menu.
  • In TC mode, use fire and down to change from F to C.
  • In TC mode, use fire and up to adjust watts (up to 80).

The DRAG 4 menu lets you adjust modes, program the lock slider, reset puffs, and change the screen color (classic, green, yellow, purple, pink). The screen shows wattage, puff counter, individual battery percentages, resistance, puff timer, and voltage output.

Power mode performance

Testing the DRAG 4 with Sony VCT5A batteries showed impressive performance. It exceeded its rated 177W, achieving 189W, and delivered a 40A amp limit with a 0.1-ohm coil, which is average for dual-18650 mods. The voltage limit was 7.163V, confirming no boost circuit is present, but this doesn’t impact performance.

The 8.4V listed is theoretical; a 7.5V rating would have been more accurate. The mod adjusts in full-watt increments, scrolls quickly, and performs accurately, staying within a few watts of its rated output in RBA mode.

The DRAG 4 lists a charge rate of 5V/3A, but testing with a 2A charger showed a max rate of 1.57A—solid but below the claimed spec. It charges batteries individually, which is efficient, but overall slower than expected. There’s no passthrough vaping, but it does display individual battery percentages during charging. Using an external charger remains the best option for faster and safer battery management.

Temperature control performance

Accuracy

TC mode with SS316 wire performed accurately, with warm hits at 440°F.

Power Limit

Limited to 80W, suitable for builds of 60W or less.

Performance

A great option for vapers wanting to try temp control without high costs.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Great build quality
  • Good durability for not being an IP rated mod
  • Good size for a dual-18650 mod
  • Nice hand feel
  • Wood panels give it a classy look
  • Large and bright color screen
  • Great 510 connection
  • Lock slider is a great feature
  • Can change screen colors
  • No preheat or watt curve option
  • Some unnecessary modes that don’t add much
  • Not sure why the named standard power mode as “RBA” mode
  • Tank coils lack flavor
  • Overrated charge rate
  • No passthrough vaping

CONCLUSION

The DRAG 4 is a solid mod, offering great performance, build quality, and reliable temp control, similar to the original DRAG but better than the DRAG 2. It’s an excellent choice for those seeking a well-performing, affordable mod with good TC mode. However, the included tank didn’t impress, and I wouldn’t recommend paying extra for the kit, as better sub-ohm tank options are available.
