Product intro and specs

The ARGUS MT and XT are VOOPOO’s latest box mods, building on their success since the iconic DRAG series. The MT features a built-in 3000 mAh battery, while the XT is battery-compatible (21700, 20700, and 18650 with an adapter). Both mods offer 100W output, multiple power modes, and IP68 durability, positioning them as strong contenders to the Geekvape S100. Paired with the updated MAAT TANK NEW, these kits promise a solid sub-ohm vaping experience.

First impressions

The ARGUS MT and XT immediately reminded me of the Geekvape Aegis mods, known for their durability, but with a sleeker design. Unlike rubber-covered bodies, the pearl white MT features a clean, sparkling finish with a chameleon-like effect in the right light. Both mods feel lightweight yet well-built, with thick, soft leather and sturdy bases—rubberized for the MT and metal for the XT’s battery door. Overall, the design and build quality are impressive. Now, let’s see how they perform!

Build quality and design

The ARGUS MT and XT share similarities with the Aegis mods, offering lightweight, rugged IP68-rated designs. The XT is slightly larger and features a three-stage lock switch above the fire button, while the MT has a simpler two-position switch below the screen.

Both mods include a Type-C charging port, bright 1-inch rectangular screens, and intuitive button layouts. However, the screens stay on continuously, which could impact battery life, and the XT’s fire button has a slight rattle compared to the MT. Overall, the design is practical, but the always-on display is a minor drawback.

The ARGUS MT and XT share similar color options, but the MT stands out with its stunning pearl white finish, featuring a subtle sparkle and white leather. While it might be prone to dirt, it looks fantastic out of the box. In contrast, the XT’s silver gray design, with matte and shiny finishes and gray-to-army green leather, is stylish but less unique.

Both mods skip the usual silicone/rubber covers, allowing the colors to shine through. Branding is minimal, with a small GENE.TT logo on the frame and an engraved ARGUS logo on the leather, giving them a clean and sophisticated look.

Features and functions

Both mods share the same chip, specs, and functionality, but the mode labeling is unconventional. They offer three power modes: Smart (auto wattage adjustment), RBA (standard power mode), and Turbo (power mode with hard pre-heat). Turbo feels redundant, as a single power mode with pre-heat options would have been simpler.

Additionally, the mods include TC mode for Ni, Ti, SS, and three memory slots, a feature many brands have dropped. While I couldn’t test TC due to time, VOOPOO has a solid reputation for reliable TC performance.

Using the ARGUS MT & XT

As far as the menu goes, navigation is pretty straightforward. Here is a quick rundown of the usage:

Five clicks of the fire button to turn on and off.

Press up and down to enter menu mode.

Use up and down to cycle through modes and fire to accept.

After selecting a mode, you can use up and down to adjust within the mode and fire to accept.

Hold fire to exit menu mode.

Fire and down resets the puffs.

The switch on the front locks the mod (check the previous section for details).

Power mode performance

Testing was done with the MT’s internal battery. While VOOPOO lists a max output of 100 watts and 8.5 volts, I achieved a maximum wattage of 93, which is close to their rating. The amp limit was 28A with a 0.11-ohm coil, typical for internal battery mods. The voltage reached 8.172V, and I’m confident it can hit the 8.5V rating with a higher-resistance coil.

Performance is solid and comparable to the Geekvape S100. The XT, when tested with an external 21700 battery, showed similar results, suggesting the internal battery is capable of delivering max power when fully charged.

At max wattage, the mod did overheat, but I generally don’t recommend pushing single-cell mods to 100 watts. The 80-100 watt coil worked best at 80 watts, and I had no issues there. For longer battery life, I recommend using the other coils. Overall, both mods deliver excellent performance in power mode.

MAAT TANK NEW tank rundown

The included MAAT TANK NEW is an updated version of the 2019 MAAT sub-ohm tank, featuring TPP coils compatible with various tanks and pods. This basic tank offers bottom airflow, a 6.5 mL capacity, and a quarter twist top cap. The plug-n-play coils and standard Delrin 810 drip tip make it user-friendly. Airflow is adjusted via a slider, which works smoothly.

  • TPP-DM1 0.15-ohm (60-80 watts)
  • TPP-DM2 0.2-ohm (40-60 watts)
  • TPP-DM3 0.15-ohm (80-100 watts)
  • TPP-DM4 0.3 ohm (32-40 watts)

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Great build quality
  • Pearl white MT is gorgeous
  • Some color options really stand out
  • Nice leather backing
  • Solid ratings for watts and volts
  • Boost circuit
  • Good amp limit
  • Good power mode performance
  • Included tank and coils are average
  • Would have liked a three-stage lock slider on both
  • No passthrough vaping in 2022?
  • Overheats at 100 watts during testing (but don’t push single mods to 100 watts regularly)
  • Weird names for watt mode could be confusing

CONCLUSION

The ARGUS MT and XT are strong competitors to the Geekvape Aegis line, offering solid performance in rugged mods. Choosing between them depends on whether you prefer internal or external batteries. The MT’s internal battery performed well in testing and is highly rated by VOOPOO.
