Is the VOOPOO DRAG 5 Worth It? Full Review with Test Results

Is the VOOPOO DRAG 5 Worth It

The VOOPOO DRAG 5, the latest in a renowned vaping line, features the advanced GENE TT2.0 chipset, a magnetic C-frame for quick battery swaps, and a smart lock switch. It comes with the UFORCE-X Tank, offering 5.5 mL capacity, top dual-airflow, and slide-top filling.

The DRAG 5 kit is VOOPOO’s latest dual-18650 mod, succeeding the DRAG 4. Known for their steady improvement, VOOPOO now delivers consistently high-quality products. The kit includes a 177-watt mod and the UFORCE-X tank, a top-airflow sub-ohm tank with 5.5 mL capacity, featuring updated PnP-X coils. This marks a return to full mod-and-tank setups in a pod-dominated market.

First impressions

The DRAG 5 continues VOOPOO’s evolution toward a sleek, classy design, reminiscent of high-end DNA mods. It features a great paint job, solid build quality, and premium-feeling leather. The redesigned battery door fits seamlessly, and the branding is more subtle than earlier models. It looks and feels like a top-tier DRAG mod.

Build quality and design

The DRAG 5 offers a rugged yet refined feel with excellent build quality. It’s slightly larger than similar dual-18650 mods but remains compact and sturdy. The mod has a bright 0.96-inch screen, a programmable lock slider, and a redesigned battery door with magnetic leather for easy access. The 510 pin is now at the back instead of centered. Available in seven colors, the mod includes gradient and solid options with leather finishes that feel premium. Notable designs include a checkered leather pattern and a suede-like option, both stylish and well-crafted.

Features and functions

The DRAG 5 offers three power modes—RBA, Eco, and Smart—and four temperature control modes (Ni, Ti, SS316, and SS430). While temp control options are rare in modern mods, it’s great for those who still use them. RBA mode functions as standard power mode, Eco saves battery, and Smart restricts wattage ranges based on resistance. However, the mod could benefit from preheat options and a Watt Curve mode.

A standout feature is the customizable lock slider below the screen, which allows quick locking/unlocking with three configurable options. This adds convenience and flexibility to the mod.

Lock the adjustment buttons (the mod still fires)

Completely lock the mod (so it can't fire or be adjusted)

Make it an on-off switch

I love using the lock slider as a full lock to prevent accidental firing when pocketing the device. It’s a fantastic feature that adds convenience and safety, and it deserves to become a standard on mods.

Using the DRAG 5 mod

The DRAG 5 operates similarly to the DRAG 4, with familiar controls for DRAG series users. It features a fire button, up/down buttons, and a lock slider for convenience. Basic operations remain straightforward and intuitive.

Click the fire button five times to turn it on/off

Use up/down to adjust wattage and/or temp

Hold up and down to enter the menu

(In TC mode) Use fire and down to change from F to C

(In TC mode) Use fire and up to adjust wattage (up to 80)

The DRAG 5 menu allows you to adjust modes, customize the lock slider, reset puffs, and change screen colors (classic, green, yellow, purple, pink). Two new features include a toggleable theme with a fire animation during vaping and a battery evaluation mode that checks battery health with a green check or red X.

UFORCE-X tank rundown

The UFORCE-X tank, included with the DRAG 5 kit, is an upgrade from the UFORCE-L. It uses PNP-X plug-and-play coils, which last up to 100 mL but are not cross-compatible. The tank features dual top-airflow, a slide-back fill mechanism, and a 5.5 mL capacity with a bubble glass. Available in black, gunmetal, and silver, it pairs well with the mod’s color options.

The wide-bore 810 drip tip, sturdy build, and easy coil replacement without tools make it user-friendly. Designed for DL vaping at 40-80 watts, the tank includes two coil options, with three more available separately.

The PNP-X 0.15-ohm mesh coil, rated at 60-80 watts

The PNP-X 0.3-ohm mesh coil, rated at 32-40 watts

The UFORCE-X tank includes two coils: a 0.15-ohm coil (70 watts) and a 0.3-ohm coil. While the 0.15-ohm coil offers decent flavor and lasts over 80 mL, it can’t compete with top-tier bottom-airflow tanks. The 0.3-ohm coil, however, lacks flavor. The tank’s top-airflow design prioritizes leak resistance but sacrifices some flavor quality. Overall, it’s a solid, well-built tank with good longevity but not a standout for flavor.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • Great build quality
  • Good durability (especially for a non-IP rated mod)
  • Relatively compact for a dual-18650 mod
  • Nice hand feel
  • Leather battery door gives it a classy look
  • Large and bright color screen (can change screen colors too)
  • No preheat or watt curve option
  • Some unnecessary modes that don’t add much
  • Tank lacks flavor
  • Overrated charge and voltage specs
  • Not enough information on the battery tester mode

CONCLUSION

The DRAG 5 is a solid, well-built mod and a worthy successor to the DRAG 4. It offers great performance, top-notch build quality, and even includes rare temp control options. It’s an excellent choice for those seeking reliable power and TC modes at an affordable price. The UFORCE-X tank improves on the UFORCE-L, delivering good flavor and longer coil life. While not exceptional, for an extra $10, it’s a solid tank addition.
